Now location was a man in ... Carmel, [who] was terribly well-heeled. He had iii a thousand bovid and a thousand goats. And he was cutting off his sheep.... The label of the man was Nabal {lit: "a fool"}, and the baptize of his married woman Abigail {lit: "source of joy"} ... a adult female of hot consideration and magnificent appearance; but the man was caustic and atrocious in his behavior...

When David detected ... that Nabal was cut his sheep, David sent ten girlish men ... "... go to Nabal, and ... say to him ... 'Please impart any comes to your paw to ... your son David.'"

Then Nabal ... said, "Who is David, ... Shall I afterwards bear my baked goods and my h2o and my meat that I have killed for my shearers, and administer it to men once I do not cognize where they are from?"

Then David said to his men, "Every man gird on his sword." ... more or less four c men went beside David, ...

Then Abigail ... took two one hundred loaves of bread, two skins of wine, v bovid once dressed, 5 seahs {a undersize more than a bushel, or roughly 10 gallons} of cooked grain, one a hundred clusters of raisins, and two 100 cakes of figs, and burdened them on donkeys.

Now once Abigail saw David, she ... fell on her obverse until that time David, and bent thrown to the bottom.

Then David aforesaid to Abigail: "Blessed is the LORD God of Israel, who sent you this day to come upon me! And ... unbroken me this day from future to gore and from avenging myself next to my own paw.

... after roughly speaking ten days, that the LORD stricken Nabal, and he died.

So once David detected that Nabal was dead, he said, "Blessed be the LORD, who has pleaded the end in of my rebuke from the manus of Nabal, and has unbroken His servant from evil! For the LORD has returned the transgression of Nabal on his own team leader."

And David conveyed and proposed to Abigail, to pinch her as his married woman. So Abigail ... became his spouse. (1 Samuel 25:2-9,10,12,13,18,23,32,33,38,39,42, NKJV)

Nabal was a massively well-situated man. At this time, success was measured more than in livestock, than in gold or hoary. David and his six cardinal men had been sentient in the neighbourhood in the wild of Paran for a length of many an months, all the juncture marauding force communities for matter and goods, as they hid from King Saul and his troops.

Shearing example had come, which was a example of bad function in the past global. Nabal had over 3 k sheep to deformation and, of course, whatever of these were killed to nurture the shearers. Even still David and his men had been in the neighbourhood for lots months, they had refused to filch thing from Nabal, and even secured his chattels during that occurrence. Since such plain benevolence needed a reward, David sent every men to Nabal to will whatever goods as sum for their case.

Nabal was a stingy and overweening man, who thoughtful his own opulence preceding the of necessity of others. So he refused to ration his nutrient next to David, and slandered his integrity. He even refused to listen to his own servants who had advised him to be big to David and his men. In terror, Nabal's servants soon ran to Abigail, Nabal's wife, a fair and sharp woman, for assist.

Abigail summarily congregate a bountiful content for David and his men, mounted her mule, and helter-skelter to just David and his 4 cardinal militarised men (two hundred were left-handed to bodyguard their requirements). When David and Abigail met, David like lightning acquiesced to Abigail's demand for mercy, official her handsome offering, and returned to his own military camp. Since David had refused to maintain himself but instead trusted in the Lord, Nabal died a specified ten life later, and David took Abigail to be one of his own wives.

So what can we swot up from David and Abigail? First, the Lord expects us to payoff the kindness stretched to us by others, even at marvellous ad hominem amount. Second, truthful confidence runs towards the battle, not away from it. Third, faithful faith, refuses to vindicate one's own self, but a bit trusts the Lord to harmonize the scales in His own occurrence. Fourth, truthful reliance is ever generous, neither miserly nor tight-fisted.
